Job Title:Â Therapeutic Riding Instructor (Full-time, Part-time)
Location: Southlands Neighbourhood, Vancouver, BC
About STaRS: Southlands Therapeutic Riding Society (STaRS) is a registered non-profit charity that provides therapeutic equestrian programs for individuals facing physical, developmental, cognitive, and mental health challenges. As a proud member of the British Columbia Association of Therapeutic Riding (BCTRA) and accredited by the Canadian National Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA), we offer activities like horseback riding, horsemanship, and equine-assisted therapy. We at STaRSÂ believe working with horses can uncover strengths, inspire new possibilities, and promote empowerment. Our programs are integrated with a traditional riding school, fostering inclusivity and unique learning experiences. STaRS thrives on the generous support of donations, grants, and volunteer efforts; we exist for our community and because of it, with our donors and volunteers playing a crucial role in our success.
Description
Summary:
STaRS seeks a passionate and qualified therapeutic riding instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with individuals with disabilities and a strong background in horseback riding instruction. You will be responsible for creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for our riders while delivering effective therapeutic riding programs.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct therapeutic riding lessons for individuals and groups.
- Assess and monitor riders’ progress, adapting lessons to meet their needs.
- Collaborate with therapists and other staff to develop individualized goals and strategies.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants and horses during all activities.
- Maintain a clean and organized riding environment.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteers assisting with lessons.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Therapeutic Riding Instructor (PATH Intl. or CANTRA).
- Strong equestrian skills with experience in instructing riders of all abilities.
- Experience working with individuals with physical, emotional, or developmental challenges.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
